Shanaze Reade crowned BMX world champion

On her return from injury, Shanaze Reade has scooped her third BMX world championship title in South Africa.

The 21-year-old is now heavily tipped as the favourite to take gold at London 2012, where she will also compete on the in the team sprint alongside established medalist Victoria Pendleton.

Reade told the BBC: "It’s absolutely amazing – I’m emotional at the moment but the feeling is so good."

"Missing last year was one of the hardest things, but every day that went past I was digging more and more, and it’s paid off."
