Thousands of children to get pedalling thanks to industry-backed project

Still time to sign up for The Big Pedal

Registration for The Big Pedal is still open ahead of the start of the race next week.

The three week project, organised by Sustrans and backed through cycle industry cash via Bike Hub, pits schools into competition with each other to cycle the most miles. Pupils, teachers and parents can take part in the project, which runs from March 7th to 25th.

Today is the final day for schools to sign up if they want to receive their wallchart in time for the start of the race, but registration will remain open until March 4th. The number of schools seeking to take part is currently over 1,100, including hundreds of thousands of pupils.

Bike Shops can download an A4 poster to promote The Big Pedal.

The Big Pedal’s final week is also Bike to School Week, running from March 21st to 25th.

Big Pedal Project Manager Vincent Goodwin said: “It’s fantastic to see so many schools signing up for the Big Pedal and competing in their own version of the Tour de France. We’re sure the competition will be hotly contested, and we can’t wait for the ‘Grand Départ’ on March 7th."
