Strava comes to Apple Watch Series 2

Strava has confirmed that the platform will now be supported on the Apple Watch Series 2 with the ability to use the device without tethering to an iPhone.

The newly developed app utilises the watch’s GPS capabilities by recording the user’s time, pace, distance, speed and heart rate without the need for an iOS device. Apple Watch Series 2 is the latest in over 100 devices that support GPS to work seamlessly with Strava.

“Research and athlete feedback often drives new Strava features and integrations,” said Mateo Ortega, head of integration for Strava. “We’re excited to add to our growing list of compatible devices; we see this as the first step in providing our athletes an excellent Strava experience on the Apple Watch Series 2. Our athletes can look forward to continued updates as we strive to provide the best Watch experience possible.”

Athletes already using the Strava platform on an Apple Watch will see the app update automatically when Strava is updated on an iOS device. Users can install the new version of Strava by visiting the app store from today.
