The National Cycle Network wins (yet another) major award

Sustrans cleans up

Premier pop-to-be Tony Blair announced yesterday that the National Cycle Network has been awarded a Millennium Product award by the Design Council.

Millennium Products is the nationwide search for the countrys most innovative products and services. Selection criteria include innovation, creativity and whether the product is pioneering in its field.

John Grimshaw, Founder and Director of Sustrans, said, modestly: There can be no better example of a Millennium Product than the National Cycle Network. It spans the whole country, runs within 2 miles of half the population, and provides the opportunity for almost everyone to make their own contribution to a sustainable transport future.

NB

Recent focus group research commissioned by Sustrans found that the phrase ‘National Cycle Network’ is far better known than the word ‘Sustrans’ and therefore NCN will be brouhgt more to the fore in future promotions.
