Taipei Cycle d&i awards cut down to size

Forty nine products from nine countries have been shortlisted in the 2014 Taipei Cycle design and innovation awards. The awards scheme is run TAITRA (Taiwan External Trade Development Council) and TBA (Taiwan Bicycle Association). The shortlist was drawn up by iF Design Forum of Germany. An international judging panel selected winners out of 185 entries from 16 countries. Five gold winners will be awarded during the opening ceremony of the 2014 Taipei Cycle Show on March 5th. The other 44 silver winners will be awarded at the pre-show press conference on March 4th.

All winning products will be on display at the show, to be staged at the Taipei World Trade Center Nangang Exhibition Hall.

Judges indicated several industry trends were revealed by entries this year. The design for folding bikes becomes even more compact and quicker to fold. There’s also greater use of "connected" tech such as Bluetooth integrated accessories.

The judeges included Tony K. M. Chang (Taiwan Design Center/Taiwan), Shikuan Chen (Compal Electronics/Taiwan), Stijn Deferm (Stijn Cycles/Taiwan), Norbert Haller (IDberlin/Germany), Martin Kessler (Process Design/Switzerland) and Michael Steen (Nike/Taiwan).
