Tern to launch non-folding bike for 5th anniversary

Folding bike brand Tern is marking its 5th anniversary this year – and expanding outside its comfort zone with a non-folding line, named Roji (alley in Japanese).

Tern has chosen the upcoming Taipei Cycle Show to unveil the new bike line, developed with Japanese design studio Kitt Design.

Despite the fact Roji bikes are not folders, they are true to Tern’s city focus, with 650C tyres, simple 1×8 gearing and unique geometry that are spec’d for urban riding and "Asian body-types," the brand said.

The range comes in four models, the urban-styled RIP and Clutch, and the classically styled Rally and Gleam.

In a press statement, the brand reflected on the five years since its launch: "Tern has developed a global distribution network covering more than 70 countries. Through partnerships with leading distributors in their market, impactful cooperations with public transport authorities, advocacy associations and even pop culture celebrities, Tern continues to grow its business and promote cycling around the world.

"Tern’s widely publicised Cargo Node Kickstarter campaign with Xtracycle raised more than 150,000 USD from backers across three continents, further establishing the utility and relevance of folding bikes in cities. Tern offers bikes for almost any use and style, from everyday riders to bikes for utility, performance and around-the-world tours."
