Tomcat’s rear-steering tricycle won the ‘best in show’ prize from disability publication Able.
The custom-built product is the latest from the company that has built thousands of special needs trikes in its onsite workshop since 1997.
Tomcat MD Bob Griffin picked up the award at Naidex Scotland – a show for disability, homecase and rehabilitation services and equipment, for trade and consumers.
Griffin invented the Carer Control feature, which allows a parent or carer to control steering and braking from the rear of the trike. The feature means that people with severe learning difficulties, physical disabilities and wheelchair users with poor muscle tone can ride a Tomcat and experience cycling.
Griffin came up with the first Carer Control system for his son Tom, who had Angelman’s Syndrome and severe learning difficulties.
