Seville in Spain is famous among cycle advocates for the "overnight" installation of a network of cycleways, and thereby transforming into a cycling city, with an elevenfold increase in the numbers of people getting on bikes. It’s therefore significant that UK transport minister Jesse Norman is currently in the city and has met with political leaders as well as some of the city’s cycle advocates.
Between 2006 and 2011 Seville created a 120km network of cycleways in a "city without a tradition for cycling," says an academic study. This led to a sizable uptick in the numbers of people cycling.
