At Interbike, members of the Southern California Bicycle Expo Industry Advisory Board will be giving a presentation outlining successes and advantages of participation in consumer bicycle shows.

US bike companies want more consumer-facing shows

The Advisory Board includes representatives from Giant Bicycles, Kona, KHS, Answer Products, and others.

Members have seen positive results from supporting consumer shows in the past, and plan to increase industry support while raising the profile of cycling to the consumer.

"Over 15,000 people paid to see bicycle culture at the Los Angeles show last year," said Steve Richey, president of PromoLogic, which represents several US bike industry brands.

"Our dealers tell us that people come into their shops requesting product that was at the show. Some of our dealers sell at the event, effectively creating a second location for their shop with more potential customers than they usually see in a year.

"Our industry’s future is in the hands of the consumer."

Shows can be a catalyst to "building the cycling community," said Ritchey.

The presentation will be held in Room 102 from 7:30am until 8:15am before the opening of the first day at the Sands Convention Center.
