USA Triathlon considers split from US Olympic Committee

The Los Angeles Times has a long and interesting piece about the planned revolt by USA Triathlon, the first time a US sport has tried to secede from USOC.

The treasurer of USA Triathlon has submitted a resolution calling for the federation to secede and channel $550 000 of the governing body’s $5m annual budget away from the 200 elite triathletes vying for Olympic consideration.

USA Triathlon execs say USOC is more interested in winning medals than in developing and promoting grass roots sports.
