The 'biggest cycle parking facility in the UK' will include retail and maintenance and tackle 'chaotic' bike parking at the station

VIDEO: Cambridge to host huge £2.5m bike park

Plans for a huge new cycle park are in place at Cambridge railway station.

3,000 new bicycle parking spaces will be created in the proposal, made by property development company Brookgate, in collaboration with the DfT (Department for Transport).

Undertaken in partnership with Network Rail, the government is set to bolster funding with £500,000 for the parking facilities. It will be the largest in the UK, the planners say, with cycle facilities, sales and maintenance on site.

Mooted back in April last year, the pace has picked up with the proposal, with plans now submitted for consultation. There’s also a video of the proposal below.

According to Cambridge News, ‘Cycle Point’ will cost around £2.5m and is likely to be part of a six-storey building with a 230-bedroom Accord hotel.

The local news site added that bike parking would be free, with a premium option available to users. Users would not be able to ride their bikes inside the facility, which has come in for some criticism.
