The Mighty Corinthian will be a 301km summertime grand tour of the Lake District on retro bikes.

Want your retro cycle event to be longer? Meet the Mighty Corinthian

Sportive Lakes, organisers of the À L’ancienne vintage festival, have created a new and rather long retro cycling event to be staged in June next year. The Mighty Corinthian will be a 301km grand tour of the Lake District. It will be "probably the longest retro event in the world," said event director, Alan Brenton.

The Mighty Corinthian will roll out from the market town of Ulverston on June 25th 2016. The inaugural event will be limited to 300 entrants, all of whom must ride on pre-1987 bikes. The route features Coniston, Ambleside, Thirlmere, Keswick, Caldbeck, Hartside, Appleby, Ullswater and Kirkstone.

Brenton said: "We’re developing a reputation for events with high levels of support and great food, where fun and friendship are more important than speed. So, there will be at least five food stops with real, quality food matching the time of day. We’ll have quality vintage hire bikes and great on-course support."

Entrants – and only entrants – will be able to buy the event jersey, a retro-styled affair made from merino wool.
