Electric bike searches also leap 175 per cent as fuel cost rises worsen. Research by price comparison engine

Web traffic for bikes up “58% month-on-month due to petrol hikes”

Further hikes in petrol prices have sparked a large surge in web searches for bicycles and electric bikes, according to a price comparison website.

idealo.co.uk told BikeBiz that search requests for bikes and electric bicycles have jumped by 58 and 175 per cent month-on-month jumps, respectively.

Cycling can be a great way to cut costs and keep fit,” said Matt Hopkins at Idealo.co.uk. “It’s important not to rush into buying a bike just because it’s cheap, though. If it isn’t comfortable and easy to ride then you’ll soon be longing for the comfort of your car seat while the bike will just end up gathering dust in your shed.”

The website’s bike listing can be found here.
