Consumer cycle mag What Mountain Bike and cycle industry marketing and PR specialist Red Cloud have joined forces for a fund raising challenge this August.
Team What Mountain Bike Red Cloud will be taking on the TransRockies Race in aid of Stay Strong – the charity set up in aid of injured BMX star Stephen Murray.
The Team is looking for a willing recruit to join Red Cloud’s Mark Almond as race partner in the race. In What Mountain Bike’s February issue (on sale now) readers will be invited to enter the competition to take up the place. With flights and race support package, including meals and tent accommodation also included, all the winner has to do is train, turn up and take part.
SRAM is also supporting the endeavour – UK distributor Fisher Outdoor Leisure is donating up to £1,000 RRP worth of SRAM components for the winner to upgrade their bike ahead of the race.
Almond explained: “I’ve always wanted to enter the TransRockies but never felt my fitness or ability on a bike was at the level required. However, seeing Stephen Murray’s ongoing battle and determination made me realise that anything is indeed possible.
“We’re looking for someone to join us who, like me, wants to prove that an average rider can train up and take on the biggest mountain bike race in the world.”
“We are lucky to have MTB champions Jenny Copnall and Steve Peat on board to help us with advice and guidance as well as great support from all our sponsors such as Fisher Outdoor Leisure, SRAM, Travel Alberta and the TransRockies. Thank you all.”
The TransRockies, now in its tenth year, runs from August 7th to 13th this year, starting in Fernie, British Columbia and ending in Canmore, Alberta.
