Wilier to sue Belgian rider at centre of motor doping storm

Italian bike brand Wilier has announced it is to sue the 19-year old rider accused of motor doping at a cyclo-cross race on Saturday.

CEO Andrea Gastaldello said he was "full of sorrow" over tthe alleged motor doping by Femke Van Den Driessche. She rides for the Kleur Op Maat team which is equipped with Wilier bikes.

"We are shocked," said Gastaldello.  "We want to distance [ourselves] from this act. [It is] absolutely contrary to the basic values ​​of our company, and with the principles of each sporting competition."

He added: "[It is] unacceptable that the photos of our bike is making the rounds of the international media due to this unpleasant fact.

"Our company will take legal action against the athlete, and against any [others] responsible for this very serious matter."

Wilier was founded 110 years ago.
