The first "winter" PressCamp was held at the end of January at a luxe ocean-front resort close to Los Angeles. Lance Camisasca, co-owner of event organiser Lifeboat Events, said it was received extremely positively by exhibitors and attending press and has "driven a stake in the ground to become a media event for brands with seasonal launches or for those who missed media opportunities at the [autumn] trade shows."
Larry Pizzi, president of e-bike maker Currie Tech, said: "It was an extremely successful event for us, with significant interest in Haibike and Bosch from the attending media. We will receive some great press as a result of our participation."
From the press side, Road Bike Action’s Zap Espinoza, said:
"PressCamp reminds us that smaller can, in fact, have its own benefits. PressCamp provides the opportunity to talk, ask questions, get answers and most important of all, form relationships, which remain most important assets in our industry."
The summer PressCamp will be held June 16th-20th in Park City, Utah. The event has been staged since 2009, moving to Park City in 2010.
Camisasca said: "PressCamp has 21 brands already on-board prepared to show new products and we couldn’t be more pleased with the industry’s enthusiasm.We are delighted to have 17 editors confirmed they will attend. They represent over 20 vertical and non-endemic publications, websites and blogs, with more being added almost daily."
The event is condo-based and limited to 25 exhibitors. Exhibiting brands so far are Camelbak, Clifbar, Enve, Hayes, Kali Protectives, Bionx, Orbea, Ridley, Smith Optics, Stan’s NoTubes, Sugoi, Manitou, Niner, Cannondale, GT, Wheelsmith, SunRinglé, Schwinn, Sombrio, Purely Custom, Mongoose and Answer.
