Echoes of the Tour de France's visit to Yorkshire.

Yorkshire littered with Tour de France decorations, claims company

Many of the decorations that lined the Yorkshire route of the Tour de France in 2014 have yet to be cleared away, claims a representative of BigGreen.co.uk, a Leeds-based waste management company.

The company’s Mark Hall said: "It pains us to see that the clear-up from last year’s events still hasn’t been completed."

He added: "The Tour de France may have left incredible memories of hundreds of thousands lining the route during its triumphant visit , but the county is still clearing up the mess six months later.

Hall said many of the once-iconic bikes painted yellow and hung from vantage points are now "weather-worn and increasingly tatty."

Finishing the Tour clear-up is being left to cash-strapped local councils, who aren’t moving quickly enough.

"Don’t get us wrong, we loved the Tour," said Hall. "But it’s getting a little embarrassing to see so much Tour promotional stuff still in place."

Hall would like to see members of the public should "clear the streets of the detritus of the Tour before the tourist season starts again."

"Let’s pull together and make the county look great for the summer."
