Selle Royal reveals retro saddle lines

Firm goes back to the 1970s with latest product launch
Publish date:

Selle Royal is re-introducing two saddles that it says signficantly shaped the saddle trends of today.

First launched in the 1970s, the Contour and the Aeroyal are expected to appeal to the ‘comfort’ crowd and the increasingly popular retro market.

The 1972 Contour was reportedly the first to take account of the relationship between saddle fit, the human anatomy, comfort and performance, according to Selle Royal. It was also ridden to overall victory at the ’77 Giro d’Italia by Marino Basso.

The 2011 version of the Contour uses the same mould as the ’72 original. Available in two options – Contour Leather and Contour Microtex – the saddle sports chromed steel rails and a nylon shell, with the leather version in White Nabuk, Black or Brown, and the Microtex version in Black, Blue or White.

The Aeroyal, also part of the ‘Origins’ range, also has strong 19702 roots and is associated with the earliest days of BMX, according to the firm. The robust, sought-after saddle’s original design was strong enough for Selle Royal to re-release the saddle for 2011 with ‘zero design reformations’.
