Chris Ramsey from Plug In Adventures achieved 180.75 miles in a 12-hour period

Chris Ramsey from Plug In Adventures broke the Guinness World Record for the furthest distance travelled on an e-bike in a 12-hour period on 26th August.

Using a Volt Pulse hybrid e-bike, he achieved 180.75 miles at the Grampian Transport Museum in Alford, Aberdeenshire.

The record was previously set in November 2016 by Prasad Erande in Maharashtra, India, at 110.60 miles.

The electric bike was on loan from the Energy Saving Trust (EST) in Scotland, which offers free short-term trials on a small fleet of Volt bikes.

Ramsey said: "Being a sustainable adventurer, it is important to me that everything I do relates to modes of transport that can help reduce emissions within our cities, but also inspire the public to actually want to adopt this technology.

“My adventures and challenges are aimed at helping the public better understand the capabilities of this technology. I am a passionate advocate of sustainable transport.

“The popularity of electric bikes has been growing year on year. They are a good alternative to a push bike, especially if your route includes hills is more than five miles long, or if you would like an extra boost on the road. You do not need to be a hardcore cyclist to use one for your daily commute."

“Switching your combustion engine vehicle for an e-bike to travel into the city, or to and from work, will not only help increase your fitness, but also help reduce emissions within our cities, towns and villages.

“Making the air we breathe in our country much cleaner helps the general public be healthier as a whole.”

Ramsey founded Plug In Adventures to combine his passion for adventure and electric vehicles in a single, industry-leading brand.

His record follows numerous feats in the interest of promoting sustainable transport.

In November 2017, he and his wife Julie were the first people to complete the Mongol Rally in an electric car.
